Okay, so a workmate found out that I rode a road bike and somehow convinced me to go mountain biking. I wasn't really into it, I'm not the rugged macho type. I drive a car - two wheel drive. But he's a nice guy and often helps me out, so I agreed to it. Wow! What a great time! Okay okay - I GET IT! Trails are fun! It's like hiking but without all that pesky walking crap. We rode for almost 2 hours! I've never ridden that long - heck I don't even like to DRIVE for 2 hours. I was havin' so much fun, I think if we had packed some sandwiches I might've been good for even longer. Am I now a hardcore offroad junkie? Hardly. But it was a lot of fun. We ended up going a few more times and I decided that maybe it was time to stop borrowing his old bike and get one of my own. He had an older Fisher that he let me ride, a 29er - forget the model. It looks great and it was easy to assemble. A lot of the 29er bikes I see nowadays have disc brakes but this particular bike has the old school style of bike pads. I actually prefer it that way because it is easier for me to maintain and I am not really a hardcore off road cyclist. The frame is great and the paint job is really spiffy and cool looking. The only reason why I dinged it 2 stars was because the rear derailleur broke the very second day I was riding it. The shifters are fine (I would have preferred trigger based ones but the rotating type it comes with are fine too) and the front derailleur is good too. However the rear derailleur is mostly metal but the part that connects the derailleur to the mounting bracket is plastic and just snapped. I have added the pic of the broken part. I have ordered a replacement part for about $20 from amazon so its not that expensive a fix unless you take it to a bike shop that would probably be triple the cost. I... He is 6' and 270lbs and I was having a hard time finding a bike for him due to the weight limits. This bike fits his frame perfectly and he hasn't had an issue with the weight either. It is large enough so that he doesn't have to lean over as much which allows him to be more comfortable and have longer bike rides. I would highly recommend this bike to anyone who has a larger frame/weight and is having a difficult time finding one! |
